Crochet an Ichigo San Bunny amigurumi for this easter!
This month, we’re going to talk about our favourite character, the BUNNY! And not forgetting their favourite food too. This bunny is inspired by our favourite stories of all times – Alice in Wonderland! Remember how Alice fell into the rabbit burrow while trying to chase a mysterious bunny with a pocket watch? This is one of the guards from the Red Queen and it is wearing the poker cards uniform. Does it give you a feel of the medieval times? Hehehe~ And a HUGE pot of cabbage beside it. Alright I don’t think they mentioned about cabbages in the story, but…. isn’t it cute?
Q: But isn’t Easter all bout the eggs?
A: Maybe at Tiny Rabbit Hole, we don’t exactly follow traditions. We listen to our Bunny God =p
Sooooooo… We’re gonna present to you a FREE Cabbage Crochet Pattern which you can make many of them and convert part of your home into a mini crochet garden! It’s a very fun project and I’ve enjoyed it loads! Moreover, for those of you who have not tried double crochet before, you may take this chance to learn more about this very commonly used crochet stitch and practice making them.
This is an easy pattern which is manageable for students who have recently completed our Level 2 Crochet Workshops or equivalent and would like to learn a new stitch. With any purchase of our Katia Bulky Cotton or Schachenmayr Original Journey yarns within this month, we’ll be providing *FREE HELP!* We’ll be opening on all Mondays in the month of March 2018 from 7-9pm to guide you along.
Free Help Criteria
- You must already know how to do basic crochet (chain and single crochet) and magic ring. If you have not, you may sign up for our Level 1 Intro to Crochet Workshops where we’ll guide you step-by-step on how to make your first crochet piece. You may also watch our video tutorials here.
- You don’t need to be an existing student of Tiny Rabbit Hole. As long as you love our works and would like to do the cabbage, we would like to help you achieve it!
- If you already know how to do but wanna find somewhere to hangout and do together, feel free to join us! We hope to get to know you too!
- We’re specially setting time aside to help you, so please come on time and make full use of the session!

For this project, we’ll be using Schachenmayr Original Journey from Germany to make the luscious cabbage. If you have been to Tiny Rabbit Hole, you would have tried these yarns before. They’re a little special compared to what you’ve seen at Spotlight and other local craft stores. Why are they special?
- They’re made up of a knitted tube with stuffing in the middle that plumps the yarn up
- This yarn, I can say, is only 1 ply. Which means there are no chances of splitting up the yarn by accident for a complete beginner.
- This green has sporadic white spots. It’s very soft, pretty and organic looking, so the first thing that came to my mind is to make vegetables with it!
A 3.0 or 3.5mm crochet hook would be suitable for the project. You may interchange the hook size so that you can achieve various leaf sizes with just the 2 leaf sizes we have below.
Materials (yarns, supplies and tools can be found here)
- Schachenmayr yarn in Apple Green
- Black safety eyes (optional if you would like to give the cabbage a character)
Tools
- 3.0mm 5/0 or 3.5mm 6/0 Tulip crochet hook (made in Japan)
- Yarn needle

Instructions
- Our amigurumi are mostly done in continuous rounds starting with a Magic Ring. You don’t need to end with a slip stitch unless otherwise stated. You should use a stitch marker to mark the last stitch of every round at all times.
- You may wish to download the Counter+ app to help you with your counting.
- Please crochet the stitches tightly to prevent the polyfiber stuffing from showing. However, do not crochet too tightly otherwise it’ll be difficult to continue.
- Be sure to push the washer down only the first screw of the safety eye to prevent bulging.
- Always stuff your amigurumi firmly till the point that it feels bouncy.
- Always leave a long tail for sewing.
- When felting, ensure that the needle is perpendicular to object.
